Erie Explosion Championship Game, May 12th, 2013ERIE, PA – The 2013 Continental Indoor Football League season will climax with its championship game to be played at Erie Insurance Arena this Sunday afternoon, with kickoff slated at 2:00pm.

The championship game will feature the Saginaw Sting and the Erie Explosion.

Saginaw is the back-to-back defending champion and lost to Erie in Week 8 earlier this season, 52-20.

Former Erie and current Saginaw quarterback A. J. McKenna helped lead the Saginaw Sting comeback to propel them to the championship game, while scoring two touchdowns in the last thirty seconds of the game against Dayton.

Another former Explosion player and current Saginaw kicker Enrique Shaw was able to provide his kicking prowess in helping the Sting win over the Sharks, 66-63 in Saginaw.

An interception by Jamaal Hibler in the end zone sealed the deal in the victory.

In the previous meeting between the Explosion and the Sting, it was Saginaw that got stung with five touchdowns and over 100 yards rushing from the Explosion backfield.

This will be the first return trip to Erie Insurance Arena for McKenna and Shaw, after leaving the Explosion at the end of the 2012 season.

Erie is coming off a 55-6 victory over the dangerous Kentucky Xtreme. The Xtreme were held to no first downs until the middle of the 3rd quarter.

With the championship game being played on Mothers Day, all mothers will receive a free ticket with a purchase of a ticket at the door. In addition, the first 100 mothers to enter the arena will receive free carnations courtesy of Rose of Sharon.

This will be a Blackout game. All Explosion fans are encouraged to wear black.

The CIFL Championship Game will be aired on The Mid State Sports Network, with a special Countdown to Kickoff powered by Pennswoods dot net; beginning at 1:30pm with Sam Jordan and Dave Shannon.
