ERIE, PA – The 2016 PIAA District X High School Football Playoffs have been set for games getting underway this Thursday and Friday.

1A: Cambridge Springs (4-5) will face off against Union City (2-7) on Thursday at General McLane High School in Edinboro. That winner will then take on West Middlesex (6-3) next Thursday, at a site to be determined.

Since the Farrell Steelers (6-3) received a bye for the other Thursday game this week, they will instead prepare for Cochranton (6-3) once again. Farrell defeated the Cardinals in Friday night’s matchup in Farrell, by the score of 48-0.

5A: Friday will hold a full slate of quarterfinals action, while several regular season games take place as well. Region 5 champion Meadville (7-2) heads to Oil City High School to take on Strong Vincent (3-6), while Grove City (8-1) battles Central Tech (5-4)at Slippery Rock University.

Region 6 top seed Fort LeBoeuf (7-2) plays Franklin (4-5) at Edinboro, and General McLane (5-4) is set to face Conneaut (5-4) in a developing rivalry game at Veterans Stadium in Erie.

3A: This week’s quarterfinal round concludes Saturday night as Mercyhurst Prep (6-3) plays Slippery Rock (3-6) at General McLane High School, and Sharon (6-3) takes on Corry (6-3) at Hickory High School in Hermitage at 7 p.m. in Class 3A action.

In addition to the Class 2A playoffs starting next week, Cathedral Prep (9-0 / 4A) and McDowell (8-1 / 6A) will head off to PIAA sub region games in a few weeks; but the dates, sites and times have not been determined as of yet.
